Why a Cold Rinse?

Brrrr! Why a Cold Rinse?

Well, I can be the first to admit, who doesn’t like a hot steamy shower? Especially when you get out and the mirror is completely blurred.  Answer is, we all do!  But turns out, it has been proven that it is not that great for our skin or hair.  While for most of the duration of our shower the water can be warm to the touch, it is recommended we shock our bodies with a cold snap for these following reasons:

Skin Related:
  • Helps to close our pores to promote firmer and healthier looking skin (hello glow!) Whereas, hot water dries out of skin, resulting in itchy and, even, rash-like textures.
  • Wakes us up!  Our skin alone can tell others we are tired.  The cold rush of water is invigorating and a great way to jump start your day.
Hair Related:
  • Smooths and seals your hair cuticles, resulting in shinier and healthier looking hair.
  • Improves blood circulation, which leads to the stimulation of follicles to promote hair growth.  Longer stronger hair? Sign me up!
  • If your hair is chemically treated, the quality of your colour or treatment, normally, will last longer.  Plus the colour, especially if it is vivid tone (not a natural hair colour, such as pink or blue), will remain more vibrant.

Try It Yourself!

How long should the cold rinse be done for?  Honestly, as long as you can tolerate it.  Generally speaking, beginning at 10 seconds is a good start.  Then, try working up to 30 seconds – or even a minute if you are brave!

Does this apply to washing my face at the sink? You betchya!

Looks like that’s all I have for now.

Till next week…
